Commission Agreement for Creative Work

About this document

What it’s for

An agreement between a client and an artist, illustrator or designer for a specific piece of commissioned creative work. It takes the work through agreed stages with sign-off at each, says what is paid if the project is cancelled part-way, and makes clear who owns the physical work and the copyright.

When to use it

  • Commissioned artwork, murals, portraits, illustrations, logos, brand identities, packaging or book covers
  • Where the client wants a defined licence or full ownership of copyright
  • For one-off commissions – for ongoing freelance work use the Freelancer and Contractor Agreement
