A clear letter confirming that you have stopped acting for a client, what has and has not been done, upcoming deadlines, fees, records and authorisations.
Accountancy practice – compliance & management
Disengagement Letter
About this document
A letter confirming to a client that your engagement has ended – whether the client is moving to another adviser, you have decided to stop acting, or the business has ceased. It protects your firm by recording exactly which work you have completed, which you will not be doing, which deadlines the client is now responsible for, and how fees, records and HMRC authorisations will be dealt with.
The document is laid out in the sections below. Each one comes with a plain-English guidance note explaining what it does and what to change.
Our templates are professionally structured starting points for UK businesses, not legal advice. For anything complex, unusual or high-value, have your final version checked by a solicitor.
