Engagement Letter – Limited Company Accounts and Corporation Tax

About this document

What it’s for

A covering letter, a detailed Schedule 1 (services, exclusions, the directors’ and your firm’s responsibilities), a Schedule 2 fees and timetable, and a signed confirmation of acceptance. It sits alongside your existing Standard Terms of Business.

When to use it

  • Taking on a new limited company client for year-end accounts and corporation tax
  • Re-papering an existing client whose letter is out of date or who has changed services
  • When the company moves between micro-entity, small or larger reporting regimes

The document is laid out in the sections below. Each one comes with a plain-English guidance note explaining what it does and what to change.

  • Fees
  • Timetable

How to complete it

  • Fill in the firm, client, period and fee placeholders
  • Choose Option A or B where shown (reporting framework, who files the accounts, tax payment reminders)
  • Delete services you will not provide and add any extras agreed
  • Send directors’ personal tax under a separate letter – they are separate clients

Key points to check

  • Companies House reforms: the dates for software-only filing, abridged accounts removal and agent identity checks have moved more than once – check before use
  • The liability cap must suit your insurance and be specifically drawn to the client’s attention
