Modern Slavery Statement and Policy

About this document

What it’s for

Two documents in one. Part A is an internal anti-slavery and human trafficking policy. Part B is a modern slavery statement for publishing on your website, written around the six areas recommended by the Home Office. Parts C to E give you the supplier checks, risk assessment and publication checklist that sit behind the statement.

When to use it

  • If your turnover is at or above the section 54 threshold (currently £36 million), a statement is a legal requirement every financial year
  • If you are smaller, a voluntary statement helps when larger customers or public sector buyers ask about modern slavery
  • Whenever you take on new suppliers, especially labour providers

How to complete it

  • Check whether you are legally required to publish (Part B guidance)
  • Complete the risk assessment in Part D first and write the statement from what you actually do
  • Have the statement approved by the board and signed by a director
  • Publish it with a link on your homepage and upload it to the government registry

Key points to check

  • Reforms in the Immigration and Asylum Bill 2026 may make content and registry upload mandatory – check the current position
  • Never overstate what you do – statements are public and are scrutinised
