Payment Application and Payment Notice

About this document

What it’s for

Three linked forms for the payment cycle in construction contracts covered by the Housing Grants, Construction and Regeneration Act 1996: Part A, the payee’s interim application for payment; Part B, the payer’s payment notice; and Part C, the payee’s notice in default where the payer issues no payment notice.

When to use it

  • Contractors applying to clients, and subcontractors applying to contractors
  • Payers responding to each application within the deadline
  • Not needed for contracts with a homeowner for their own home (use invoices)

What’s inside

The document is laid out in the sections below. Each one comes with a plain-English guidance note explaining what it does and what to change.

A complete, ready-to-use document with every section written, your details shown in [square brackets], and guidance notes explaining how to complete it.

How to complete it

  • Check the dates and notice addresses in your contract before each cycle
  • Show the sum and the basis of calculation – both are required
  • Send by the method in the contract and keep proof of delivery
  • Use the Pay Less Notice in this pack to pay less than the notified sum

Key points to check

  • A late or missing payment notice can make the application the sum due
  • Payment notices are required even where the sum is zero
  • Check the status of the Commercial Payments Bill

Our templates are professionally structured starting points for UK businesses, not legal advice. For anything complex, unusual or high-value, have your final version checked by a solicitor.
