Practice Continuity (Alternate) Arrangement Agreement

About this document

What it’s for

A detailed agreement between a sole practitioner (or a firm with one principal) and another practitioner or firm who agrees to act as alternate or nominee. It sets out when the arrangement is triggered, what the alternate may do, how clients, client money, fees, data and insurance are handled, and what happens to the practice afterwards. Schedules include a practice information file, fees, an activation notice, a client letter and an annual review record.

When to use it

  • To meet professional body continuity requirements (for example ACCA, AAT, and ICAEW for sole practice auditors)
  • As good practice for any sole practitioner, including CIOT, ATT and ICB members
  • When renewing or replacing an existing arrangement
