Price Increase Letter

About this document

What it’s for

Letters for notifying customers of a price increase, plus a checklist to confirm you actually have the right to increase prices under your contract. Separate versions cover business customers with and without a price review clause, and consumers (who must normally be able to cancel if prices go up mid-contract).

When to use it

  • For an annual price review, or a price change on an ongoing service, subscription or supply contract
  • When an introductory or fixed price period ends
  • To agree a new price with a business customer whose contract does not allow you to increase it

What’s inside

The document is laid out in the sections below. Each one comes with a plain-English guidance note explaining what it does and what to change.

  • Before you send: contractual right checklist
  • Business customers
  • Consumer customers
  • Why the price is changing
  • What you need to do

How to complete it

  • Work through the checklist on the next page before you write anything
  • Choose the right letter (A, B, C or D) and one or more reason paragraphs
  • Give at least the notice your contract requires – and preferably more
  • Keep evidence that each customer was sent the letter

Key points to check

  • Without a contractual right, you cannot impose a price increase during a fixed term
  • For consumers, price change terms must be clear, fair and prominent

Our templates are professionally structured starting points for UK businesses, not legal advice. For anything complex, unusual or high-value, have your final version checked by a solicitor.
