Promotional Offer and Discount Terms

About this document

What it’s for

General terms that apply to your price promotions, plus a one-page offer summary to complete for each campaign. The terms deal with discount codes, multi-buys, free gifts, introductory and first-order offers, free trials, member prices, stock limits, pricing errors and returns. Appendices give a pricing evidence record, a compliance checklist and a bank of wording to use and avoid.

When to use it

  • Seasonal sales, Black Friday and clearance events
  • Discount codes, vouchers and first-order offers
  • Multi-buys, bundles, free gifts and introductory prices

  • Link the terms from every advert, email and product page showing the offer

Key points to check

  • Fake urgency, misleading “was” prices and hidden mandatory fees can now lead to CMA fines of up to 10% of global turnover
