Recruitment and DBS Checks Policy

About this document

What it’s for

A complete safer recruitment policy for a CQC-registered care service. It sets out every check Regulation 19 and Schedule 3 of the 2014 Regulations require, how to do DBS and right to work checks properly, how to deal with references, gaps and criminal records, and the position on overseas care workers after the July 2025 visa changes.

When to use it

  • For every new employee, and for agency staff, volunteers and directors as described
  • When preparing for CQC inspection of the “safe” and “well-led” areas
  • Alongside your general recruitment and equal opportunities policies
