Site Induction Checklist

About this document

What it’s for

CDM 2015 requires every worker to receive a suitable site induction before starting work on a construction site. This checklist makes sure nothing is missed and gives you a signed record that the induction took place, what was covered and which competence cards were checked.

When to use it

  • For every new worker, subcontractor and regular visitor before they start on site
  • When someone returns after a long break or the site changes significantly
  • For delivery drivers and short visitors, use the short visitor section at the end

What’s inside

The document is laid out in the sections below. Each one comes with a plain-English guidance note explaining what it does and what to change.

  • Part 1 – Person being inducted
  • Part 2 – Induction checklist
  • A. The project and management
  • B. Site rules and behaviour
  • C. Welfare
  • D. Emergencies
  • E. Site-specific hazards
  • F. Personal protective equipment
  • G. Their work
  • Part 3 – Competence and documents checked
  • Part 4 – Fitness for work (voluntary)
  • Part 5 – Declaration and sign-off
  • Site induction register

How to complete it

  • Fill in the site-specific details (assembly point, first aid, hazards) before inducting anyone
  • Walk the inductee round the site where possible – do not just read the list
  • Tick each item as it is covered and check competence cards
  • Both the inductor and inductee sign; keep the record on file and add the person to the induction register
