Sponsorship Agreement

About this document

What it’s for

An agreement between a sponsor and the organisation being sponsored (the “Rights Holder”) – for example an event organiser, sports club, charity, awards scheme, podcast or community project. It covers the fee and in-kind support, the package of sponsorship benefits, exclusivity and ambush marketing, brand approvals, advertising compliance, hospitality and anti-bribery, reputation clauses, and what happens if the event is cancelled or benefits are not delivered.

When to use it

  • Sponsoring, or being sponsored for, an event, club, team or awards
  • Charity and community sponsorships where the sponsor receives publicity
  • Multi-year partnerships with a package of benefits

Key points to check

  • Sponsorship with benefits for the sponsor is usually a taxable supply for VAT
