Stress and Wellbeing at Work Policy and Risk Assessment

About this document

What it’s for

A policy for preventing and managing work-related stress and supporting mental wellbeing, plus the risk assessment tools you need. It is built around the six HSE Management Standards – demands, control, support, relationships, role and change – which HSE uses when it looks at how employers manage stress.

When to use it

  • Every employer – you must assess the risk of work-related stress like any other hazard
  • When absence, staff turnover or complaints suggest pressure is building
  • When an employee tells you they are struggling, or returns from stress-related absence
