About this document

What it’s for

Toolbox talks are short, informal safety briefings – usually 10 to 15 minutes – given on site to the people doing the work. This template gives you a record sheet to show who attended and what was covered, and ten model talks you can read out or adapt.

When to use it

At the start of a job, a new phase or a new high-risk task
Weekly or fortnightly as a regular briefing
After an accident, near miss or a change in the way work is done

Key points to check

Make sure people with limited English or reading difficulties understand – use an interpreter or demonstrations if needed
Follow up actions raised by the team and record them
