Trustees’ Annual Report Checklist

About this document

What it’s for

A detailed checklist for treasurers, secretaries and trustees preparing a charity’s trustees’ annual report and accounts in England and Wales. It helps you identify which accounting framework, SORP and scrutiny apply, check the content of the report section by section, and complete approval and filing with the Charity Commission.

When to use it

  • At the start of planning each year’s report and accounts
  • When briefing your accountant or independent examiner
  • Before trustees approve and sign the report

How to complete it

  • Record approval and filing dates in Part 6
  • Keep the completed checklist with the year-end file

Key points to check

  • SORP 2026 applies to financial years starting on or after 1 January 2026
  • New thresholds apply to financial years ending on or after 30 September 2026 – figures in this checklist are placeholders to confirm on gov.uk
