Family Leave & Redundancy Pay Calculator

Overview

Statutory family pay and redundancy pay both look simple on the surface but are full of traps: the qualifying week is counted back from a Sunday, average weekly earnings come from an eight-week window between two paydays, the standard rate changes part-way through a period of leave, redundancy pay uses a capped week's pay and age bands, and only some of a leaving package is tax-free. This workbook does all of that for you, shows its working line by line, and turns the answers into a payroll schedule, a package breakdown and a costed team redundancy plan.

Up and running in minutes

  1. Example – text
  1. Settings – Enter your business name, the tax year for tax estimates, whether you qualify for Small Employers' Relief, your pay frequency and one example payday. Then set up your company (enhanced) family pay scheme, or set every tier to 0 weeks if you only pay the statutory minimum.
  2. Family Pay – Pick the type of pay, enter the key date (due date, matching date or date of death), the employment start date and the first day of pay. List the paydays and gross pay for the few months before the relevant week, and any KIT days.
  3. Check the result – The right-hand side shows each qualifying test as Pass or Fail, the average weekly earnings and the total pay. The Pay Schedule sheet lists every week.
  4. Redundancy Pay – Enter one employee's dates, pay, notice, holiday and any enhanced terms. Read the package and tax estimate at the bottom.
  5. Team Redundancy – Set the proposed dismissal date and enhanced terms, name your criteria and weights, list your pools and how many roles go, then enter each employee with their scores.
  6. Dashboard – Review the headline figures and charts, and print what you need.
