Pricing Template

Overview

Most small businesses set prices by gut feel or by copying competitors – and many quietly lose money on some of what they sell without realising. This template works out what every product or service really costs you, including a fair share of your overheads, and then sets a selling price that delivers the margin you want. It flags anything that's underpriced, shows whether your prices cover all your overheads, and helps you decide on discounts, price rises and your own hourly rate.

Quick start

Up and running in minutes

  1. Example – text
  1. Setup – settings – On the Setup sheet, choose whether you're VAT registered, enter what an hour of labour costs you, how you want overheads recovered, your default pricing method, target margin, minimum margin and how prices should be rounded.
  2. Setup – overheads – List your annual overheads – rent, insurance, vehicles, software, admin wages and so on. Use last year's accounts as a starting point and add known increases.
  3. Price List – Add one line per product or service: materials, labour hours, any other direct costs and how many you expect to sell in a year.
  4. Check the Dashboard – See forecast sales and profit, whether your prices recover all your overheads, and which lines need attention.
  5. Fix the red and amber lines – Raise prices, cut costs, change the method or margin, or decide consciously to keep a 'loss leader'.
  6. Use the other tools – Work out your own hourly rate, test discounts or price rises, and check your break-even point.
