Solar & Heat Pump Installer Pricing

Overview

Renewable installers live or die on three things: quoting at a price that really covers materials, labour, scaffolding and fees with a proper margin; getting the VAT and the Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) grant right; and keeping on top of every job – surveys, quotes, deposits, DNO applications, MCS certificates, BUS vouchers and final payments. This workbook does all three. A catalogue holds your costs and selling prices. The Quote Builder turns a list of components and the labour days for the job type into a price with margin, VAT (0% on energy-saving installations in homes until 31 March 2027), the BUS grant, deposit and the right grid connection route. The Payback sheet shows the customer their generation, savings, battery benefit, heat pump running costs and payback years. The Jobs sheet tracks up to 500 jobs and flags what needs doing next, and the Pipeline and Dashboard show your conversion, order book, installs and margin.

Who it is for

Made for people like you

  • Example – text
  • Solar PV installers – Quotes by kWp with panels, inverters, mounting, scaffolding and labour; price per kWp; G98/G99 route; payback by region, orientation, pitch and shading.
  • Battery installers – Retrofit and new battery quotes (zero-rated in homes since 1 February 2024), and the extra saving and payback from a battery on its own.
  • Heat pump installers – Air source, ground source and air-to-air quotes with cylinders, controls and radiators, the BUS grant (including the £9,000 off-gas grant) and running cost comparisons.
  • Mixed renewables firms – Combined solar + heat pump jobs, EV chargers at the standard rate on the same quote, and one pipeline for everything.

Quick start

Up and running in minutes

  1. Example – text
  1. Settings – Enter your business name, report date (normally today), VAT status, default markup, target and minimum margins, overheads per job, deposit %, quote validity and payment terms. Check the labour days for each job type and your lead sources.
  2. Rates & Grants – Check the VAT dates and rates, BUS grant amounts and dates, the generation yields and factors, and the G98/MCS rules. Update them when the rules change.
  3. Catalogue – Replace the sample items with your own products, costs, markups and VAT treatment. Keep the five labour roles' codes on Settings pointing at your labour day rates.
  4. Quote a job – On the Quote Builder enter the customer and job details, pick catalogue codes and quantities, check the labour days and look at the margin, VAT, grant and grid connection route.
  5. Show the payback – On the Payback sheet pick the region, orientation, pitch and shading, enter the household's use and prices, and walk the customer through the savings.
  6. Track the job – Add a line on the Jobs sheet for every enquiry and fill in dates as each step happens. Work through the Next action column every week.
  7. Review – Read the Pipeline and Dashboard each month – conversion, order book, installs, margin and what's owed.
