Behaviour Management Policy

About this document

What it’s for

Your written policy on how adults in your setting support children’s behaviour. It explains your positive approach, the practices you never use, how you respond to biting, hurting and distress, when physical intervention is allowed and how it is recorded and shared with parents. It includes a physical intervention record, ABC observation sheet, behaviour support plan and biting log.

When to use it

  • As your behaviour policy for Ofsted and your parent handbook
  • In staff induction, supervision and room meetings
  • When a child’s behaviour needs a planned, shared response with parents
