Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Policy

About this document

What it’s for

A full policy setting out how your organisation prevents discrimination, harassment and victimisation and builds an inclusive workplace, in line with the Equality Act 2010. It explains the law in plain English, sets out what managers must do at each stage of employment, and includes a diversity monitoring form, a reasonable adjustments form and an action plan template.

When to use it

  • As a standalone policy or a chapter of your staff handbook
  • When reviewing recruitment, pay or promotion practices
  • To help show a tribunal you took reasonable steps to prevent discrimination by staff

Key points to check

  • Read alongside your Anti-Harassment Policy, Grievance Procedure and Disciplinary Procedure
  • The law on sex and gender reassignment has moved since April 2025 (see section 11) – check current EHRC guidance
