About this document

When to use it

  • Adopt it for all employees alongside your contracts or staff handbook
  • Use it with the Return-to-Work Interview Form in this pack

  • Choose Option A or B for company sick pay in clause 9
  • Decide your absence review triggers in clause 11 (or delete them)
  • Check the SSP rate in clause 8 and Appendix A against gov.uk each April

Key points to check

  • From 6 April 2026 SSP is paid from the first day of sickness and the lower earnings limit no longer applies – update payroll and contracts
  • Do not count disability- or pregnancy-related absence towards triggers without taking advice
