Zero-Hours / Casual Worker Agreement

About this document

What it’s for

An agreement for casual staff who are offered work as and when it is available, with no guaranteed hours and no obligation to accept. It gives the worker the section 1 written statement and deals with pay, the 12.07% irregular-hours holiday rules (including optional rolled-up holiday pay), SSP and pensions.

When to use it

  • For bank, relief, event, seasonal or other casual staff whose hours genuinely vary
  • Not for staff who work regular, predictable hours – give them a permanent or fixed-term contract
  • Not for self-employed contractors, who need a contract for services
